Blickling Cottage

Surrounding Area
The area surrounding Blickling provides an array of activities for couples and families alike to enjoy. Some of our favourites are detailed below although further information can be found on the 'Visit Norfolk' website (http://www.visitnorfolk.co.uk/)

Boat tours of the Broads depart from Wroxham, such as 'The Belle of the Broads' (pictured at the top of the page). Day boats can be hired from the same location which are perfect for taking out a picnic or stopping off at the various pubs as you explore the Broads' waterways.

Guests are able to fish right on the doorstep of Blickling either on the River Bure or in the calmer waters of the adjacent boat basin. The waters offer excellent coarse (roach, rudd, bream, perch) and pike fishing.

There is a wide range of restaurants and take aways in Wroxham including 'Wherrymans' (pictured and adjacent to Wroxham Bridge) which makes lovely pizzas.

Wroxham Barns is a great day out for the families with craft shops, junior farm (children can feed and pet the resident animals), funfair, miniature golf and indoor play area for smaller children.

BeWilderwood is a large adventure playground created within the local woodlands filled with epic tree-high mazes, rope bridges, slides and zip wires. With face painting, craft making and interactive storytelling, it's a great day out with the children. Bicycle hire is also available from BeWilderwood.

Experience a nostalgic trip by steam on Norfolk's longest narrow gauge railway which runs between Wroxham and the historic market town of Aylesham. Along the line are the villages of Brampton, Buxton and Cottishall where you can hop off and explore by foot. The single journey between Wroxham and Aylesham takes approximately 45 minutes.

Cromer is a quaint seaside town famous for its shellfish, particularly 'Cromer dressed crab'. It has a pier, amusements, theatre, cinema and independent shops.

There are several good golf courses in short drivable distance from Blickling. These include Royal Norwich, Royal Cromer, Sheringham and Sprowston Manor. The notorious Championship course of Hunstanton is slightly further afield.

Blickling Hall is a beautiful and historic stately home surrounded by superb grounds and gardens. The house is the ancestral home of Anne Boleyn, one of Henry VIII's wives. Look out for themed events, particularly around Christmas time.

If you are partial to a tipple of real ale, the Woodfordes Brewery (a short drive from Blickling) is a must. Tours of the brewery are popular but must be booked in advance. The adjoining 'Fur and Feather' public house serves an array of Woodfordes ales and good pub food.

A popular tourist attraction is to see the seals and other wildlife on Blakeney Point. The best way to do this is to book a trip on one of the locally operated ferry trips departing from Morston Quay. Prior booking is a must due to the tidal times.

Sandringham is the much loved country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen. The house is set in 24 hectares of stunning gardens and is perhaps the most famous stately home in Norfolk. On site there is also a restaurant and museum.
